ONDC: Know About
An Introduction to ONDC
After the successful implementation of “UPI” in digital payments, the government launched ONDC in April 2022 to make the eCommerce market fairer. The aim is to encourage small local vendors and SMBs to embrace digital technology. ONDC is an open network where all eCommerce participants can make their products visible in search results without any bias or unfair algorithms.
By creating a standardized platform with open network protocols, the government intends to connect sellers, buyers, logistics providers, and tech companies in one place. This initiative is presented as a transparent and affordable alternative to platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
ONDC lets buyers find their preferred sellers, compare prices, and check delivery estimates using a buyer application like PayTm Buyer App. Customers can even search for sellers near their location to get quick orders from local suppliers.
What’s even more thrilling is that buyers can buy various items from different categories, such as groceries, electronics, fashion, toys, and more, using any compatible ONDC Buyer App.
Why ONDC evolved?
In India, over 12 million sellers earn their livelihood by selling or reselling products and services. Unfortunately, only 15,000 of these sellers (0.125% of the total) have been able to tap into the potential of e-commerce. The majority of sellers, particularly those from small towns and rural areas, have been unable to access e-retail opportunities.
The evolution of ONDC has been driven by the need for a comprehensive and efficient solution in the e-commerce landscape, spurred by the success of the Government’s Food Delivery App. Recognising the immense potential of digital commerce, the government expanded the scope of ONDC to create a platform that offers more than just food delivery. Now, users can shop on ONDC for a wide range of products and services, making it a one-stop destination for all their needs. So, step into the world of ONDC and unlock a world of possibilities by shopping on the platform today.

ONDC – A Boomer of Indian Buyers!
ONDC is a revolutionary online shopping solution for Indian buyers, offering a wide range of products and services on a single platform. Unlike traditional marketplaces, ONDC embraces hyperlocal sellers, allowing customers to access options not only from big sellers but also from local neighbourhood shops. This shift expands choices and enables buyers to discover better deals and services beyond major marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart.
One of the key advantages of ONDC is its focus on competitive pricing. With a large number of sellers on the platform, buyers have the opportunity to choose from multiple competitive prices. The intense competition motivates sellers to offer the best prices, attracting loyal customers.
By bringing together sellers, service providers, and solution providers within its network, ONDC offers a seamless shopping experience. Buyers no longer need to spend time navigating multiple websites to find the products and services
they desire. This centralised approach presents buyers with better choices and multiple options. They can easily find nearby sellers and delivery providers on the ONDC network, compare prices, and make informed and cost-effective
decisions.
What is ONDC Buyer App?
The ONDC Buyer App is a user-friendly application that allows buyers to conveniently shop on the ONDC platform using their smartphones. It serves as an interface that connects buyers to a wide range of products and services available on the platform. With the ONDC Buyer App, users can easily search for desired items by browsing through different categories, specific brands, or even specific sellers.
One of the key features of the app is the ability to add products to a multi-seller cart. This means that buyers can select items from various sellers and add them to a single cart, streamlining the shopping process. The app also facilitates secure and hassle-free payments, allowing buyers to complete their transactions smoothly.

ONDC – A Boon for Indian Sellers
The current state of India’s eCommerce industry is dominated by two giant players, Amazon and Flipkart, which control a significant portion of the market. However, for small retailers, selling on these platforms comes with challenges such as high commission fees, unfair policies, limited visibility, and questionable ranking algorithms. In contrast, ONDC offers a more level playing field, providing equal business opportunities for sellers to reach a nationwide audience.
ONDC serves as an open digital marketplace where millions of sellers and buyers come together, fostering a mutually beneficial customer-vendor relationship. What sets ONDC apart is its inclusivity, allowing even the smallest shop in the remotest part of the country to become an ONDC participant and sell their products to customers across India.
ONDC offers a more equitable and transparent alternative to the dominance of giant e-commerce players in India’s eCommerce landscape. It empowers small retailers by providing them with equal opportunities to reach a wide customer base and grow their e-business. With features like pan-India discoverability, cost-effectiveness, and seller-friendly policies, ONDC aims to create a thriving and inclusive online marketplace in India.
What is ONDC Seller App?
the ONDC Seller App is an application designed for sellers to handle their part in a transaction. It allows sellers to receive and respond to buyers’ requests, publish their product catalog, and fulfill orders. Indian merchants can use these apps to list their products and services, preparing their businesses for growth.
The Seller App has several responsibilities, including managing orders, returns, refunds, and payouts for sellers. It also responds to search queries from buyer apps by displaying relevant products or services. Sellers can provide detailed cost breakdowns to buyers, including item costs, fulfillment costs, seller app charges, buyer app charges, and ONDC fees. Additionally, the seller app updates the order status on the ONDC Buyer App.
By leveraging the ONDC Seller App, Indian merchants can streamline their selling processes and take their businesses to new heights through the ONDC platform.
